What was evident on the night as the National Vision council hosted the annual awards night this time as part of the independence celebrations was that the achievement of the National Vision pillars is a collective effort from the man in the street, the private sector, while government is only around to facilitate

Sixteen companies, charitable organisations, big corporations and start up businesses were recognised.

For this year’s celebrations the guest of honour Dr Gaositwe Chiepe was carefully selected to remind us how far we have come in women empowerment.  The retired stateswoman, 88, was celebrated like the national icon that she is as the hall was reminded of her remarkable achievements. It was deserving that a person of her calibre  was also chosen to award certificates and prizes to the winners on the evening.

Sir Ketumile Masire, the author of the National Vision 2016 also appeared on stage on the night to  much acclaim as he handed out  prizes to some of the winners. The wonderful evening  however turned sour  for the patriotic gathering which could not stomach  the sorry sight of their woman icon collapsing and being attended to on the stage.

The hall showed their adoration for Dr Chiepe as she was later helped to walk out of the GICC to a Block 9 clinic.

The National Vision 2016 chairman Martin Makgatle would later announce that Dr Chiepe was recovering well at the Block 9 clinic where a team of doctors attended to her.
