Last Wednesday, Debswana officials took the media on a tour of the facility.

Debswana Corporate Citizenship Manager, Barulanganye Mogotsi said they decided to sponsor the judging ring in addition to the national agricultural shows.   Debswana sponsors the regional agricultural show for P700, 000.  The Debswana official told the media that winners at the regional shows benefit from the company’s sponsorship.   He added that this year, Debswana also sponsored the popular Ghanzi agricultural show.

Regarding the sponsorship of the ring, Mogotsi said it is their commitment to contribute to the development of agriculture and economic diversification efforts.  He said, as a business, they want to enhance their partnership with the communities to undertake sustainable economic projects.

Mogotsi said the judging ring will be able to accommodate an audience of 1,000 as well the same number of participants. He noted that the massive structure could be used to market and promote agriculture in the country.  “This structure will no doubt improve the quality of the show and ensure that the show grounds are utilised throughout the year.  We hope this will also spur other investments into the show grounds,” he suggested.

He said as Debswana, they would like to see the structure being fully utilised in different ways.  Mogotsi highlighted that the show had attracted exhibitors and spectators from all over the region.

“As Debswana, we found it fit to partner with the Ministry of Agriculture and sponsor a state of the art cattle judging ring will undoubtedly bring together farmers from all corners of the country to showcase their premium livestock,” he said.

A member of the show committee, Matshego Gobuamang, said the cattle judging ring will be the first of its kind in the country, adding that even in South Africa, he has not seen such a structure.

He said it is going to be used for hosting the prize giving ceremony as well as the livestock judging event.  “Everything is going to be done here,” said Gobuamang.  He said they are also going to host livestock auctions at the ring.

He said could also be used for other events like boxing tournaments, adding that it will be a multi- purpose structure.
