Walker pulls off San Francisco upset

Walker outlasted sixth seed Mathieu Castagnet for a 3-2 victory in 98 minutes at the Bay Club San Francisco on Saturday. Walker battled Mathieu Castagnet for his 3-2 win in 98 minutes at Stanford University.

He progressed to the quarterfinal of the tournament that goes on until tomorrow. The defeat adds to the 2014 French Nationals runner up’s woes.

The Frenchman has not been as successful as he would have liked recently on the PSA Tour with his last success coming at the 2009 PSA Super Satellite de Sannois.

On the contrary, Walker went into the weekend tournament at the back of bright start to the season.

He started his season on a high note after beating Frenchman Lucas Serme to lift last weekend’s PSA ILEX Construction Charlottesville Open.

It was the World number 30’s tenth career PSA title. He ended Serme’s phenomenal run in that final, defeating the Frenchman 3-1 to take home the PSA International 25 title. T

his victory was his first since winning the Hong Kong Football Club International in May 2013.

The Botswana ace had a tough season last term and was delighted to start the season with a tournament win.

“It was a tournament that featured a lot of experienced and also young hungry professionals so to come out in top hopefully bodes well for the rest of the season,” Walker said.

He described that game as brutal.  Walker’s quarterfinal opponent is the tournament’s third seed, Peter Bakar of England. The match was scheduled for late last night
