The perpetrator(s) reportedly broke into Tsholetsa House, but it was not clear what and if they stole any thing.

BDP deputy Executive Secretary Lee Lesetedi said the thieves broke into his office, and the storeroom.

He discovered the break-in when he was about to open his office in the morning.

The Mmegi team at the scene observed that the perpetrator or perpetrators forcefully opened Lesetedi’s drawers.  BDP constitution books were strewn all over the office showing that the thieves rummaged through some  boxes in the office.

BDP executive secretary, Sechele Sechele, confirmed the break-in.  “I cannot comment much on the matter because investigations are still on.  As you can see the police are still doing their job and we have not yet realised what the thieves could have stolen,” Sechele said. Mmegi has also learnt that the BDP intended to call in an IT expect to retrieve their information.

Sechele rubbished suggestions the BDP could have staged the burglary to create a case against journalists who might have damning  information about the party.

“Why would we do that and again for what benefit? We are not going to suspect anyone because a criminal matter is meant for police to investigate,” he said.

Acting station commander for Borakanelo Police, assistant superintendent Douglas Moagedi, said he was still waiting for a full report from his officers and could thus not say if the incident was indeed a breakin or staged.

“My officers are still there.  I am waiting for them. I cannot say whether it was broken into or not. I can only give full information after being briefed by my colleagues,” Moagedi said.
