The proposal to Zurich, Switzerland was presented last week, ahead of the September 22 deadline. BFA chief executive officer, Keith Masters said a letter was sent to the world soccer governing body last week and they expect a swift response.

It was unclear if FIFA met yesterday over the matter. “A proposal was sent last week and we do not expect the response to take long,” Masters said.

FIFA had given Botswana up to yesterday to ensure the controversial constituency tournaments are run under the control of the BFA.  The world body had argued the tournaments, under the current arrangement where the government has total control, violate its statutes.

The Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) and BFA met in the wake of the ultimatum and sort to thrash out a solution. However, their initial proposal was rejected before a recent meeting involving among others, BFA president, Tebogo Sebego, FIFA development officer, Ashford Mamelodi and President Ian Khama came up with the proposal sent to FIFA last week.

Under the proposed arrangement, the government will administer the tournaments, while BFA is expected to give technical direction.

Authorities hope FIFA will accept the arrangement, although it is unclear what would transpire if the proposal was rejected.
