The funds are meant to assist clubs in the day-to-day administration.

Last season, clubs received P12, 500 after every four months, but this time, a P50, 000 payment would be made to each club this week.

The league’s acting chairperson, Sam Keitireng told Mmegi Sport that a proposal was put to Debswana to review of the payment arrangement. This was on the realisation that with staggered payments, the funds were far too low.

Under the new arrangement, Keitireng said the clubs would account for the funds.

“We expect clubs to be responsible and not misuse the money. One thing that will prove to us that the funds have been put to good use is for clubs to be able to honour all fixtures,” said Keitireng.

This season’s budget, however, does not cover marketing. Keitireng this was because it was challenging for teams to brand different playing grounds.

But, said Keitireng, they are still trying to find an easier way to put up banners during matches because it is important to give the sponsor mileage. He said the branding has only been on playing kits, but that was not visible enough.

Meanwhile, at the beginning of the season, top six teams from First Division North and South have been rewarded for their achievements.

Sankoyo Bush Bucks (North) and Letlapeng FC (South) - now playing in the premier be MOBILE league - each pocketed P20, 000. Another premier league newcomer, BR Highlanders (North), and Rolling Boys (South) took home P10, 000 each for ending the season in second position. Teams that finished third position, Black Forest (South) and Mahalapye Hotspurs (North) walked away with P5, 000.  Keitireng said clubs were given the prize money before the beginning of the season.
