No food baskets for destitutes

Gaborone City Clerk Mpho Mathe confirmed to Mmegi that the food baskets were not distributed for almost two months because the supplier’s contract had expired in July.
“There was a communication breakdown between the two parties involved. Since the previous supplier’s contract had expired, we were waiting for the new contractor to present their price list. Unfortunately the contractor took too long to submit,” he said.
Mathe said the situation has since been resolved, by extending the previous supplier’s contract for two months, while waiting for feedback from the new supplier. He, however, refused to reveal the names of both contractors.
Mathe revealed that they had experienced a similar situation in Tsholofelo, where destitutes went without food baskets for a month.
