Time for Sebego to read Babitseng the riot act

There is a strong feeling among football fanatics that BFA president, Tebogo Sebego, is either too protective over Babitseng or he thinks he owes him something.  Not long ago Babitseng was acquitted on a technicality over allegations of fraud.

Though the football fraternity has accepted the ‘not guilty’ verdict, clearing Babitseng of any wrong doing and voting him in as the association’s vice president administration, another allegation has surfaced.

His reconciliation of the books in reference to travelling expenses does not add up.

This is a major concern when Babitseng is once again accused of failing to reconcile his accounts.  The allegations are damaging to both Babitseng and the association.

Perhaps, it is time Sebego reads Babitseng the riot act to start following proper accounting procedures.

It is disappointing that what could have been an administration matter to be solved internally has found its way into the public domain.

As the second most senior person in the BFA hierarchy, Babitseng cannot be seen to be someone who cannot be trusted with funds.

The allegation brings to the fore the mishandling of finances and the association into disrepute.  One minute it is the fight between the CEO, Keith Masters and Zebras head coach, Peter Butler, and in the next there are these allegations against a senior BFA official for not following due process.

All these are very sensitive positions, which must be respected.

We cannot be hearing of alleged petty fights and failure to properly reconcile books.

Babitseng owes it to his supporters to be exemplary and live true to the spirit he has been elected in - that of trust.

Notwane

Notwane football club are once more on familiar ground, fighting relegation.

After a good start against Gaborone United, Sechaba have had four games in a row without a win.

As expected the first casualty has been coach, Innocent Morapedi, who parted company with the club after the 1-0 loss to Extension Gunners.

It was to be expected that four consecutive losses would bring into focus the performance of the coach.

Notwane has been on the sick bed for quite some time.  The general membership must do something about the club seeing that they might not be so lucky this year like they have been in the previous ones.

The club has to settle in one department.

For now it is a crisis everywhere. The administrators are not delivering therefore the players and technical team follow suit.

I once wrote that relegation is not always a bad thing, but can at times be a blessing in disguise.

I am of the view that trying to fix problems while in the Premier League is not effective as the club is always faced with challenges.

It is now commonplace that within a season Notwane will at least have two different coaches.  The general membership must agree to give the club to someone as a going concern.

That person should keep the name and colours of the club. The relegation bell is already tolling for the club as well as for ECCO City Greens, Letlapeng, BR Highlanders and others.

The north is getting poorer with each passing season.  The league race could be a long way off, but I am quite impressed with the resilience shown by BMC FC.

After all off field problems associated with ownership and a possible merger with cross-town rival, Extension Gunners, it looks like BMC FC can write a fairy tale of their own.

The club has definitely like a phoenix risen from the ashes.  Ironically Extension Gunners, which looked like it would swallow BMC FC, are not doing as great as the latter.

One can only take off their hat to the management of BMC FC for the focus it has maintained.  So far congratulations to BMC FC.

Unless something changes, Ezinkomo or is it FC Rangers, are likely to push both defending champion, Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs to the limits.

As for BDF XI they have gone off the boil a bit. This brings into sharp focus the credentials of its coach Elijah Chawanda vis-à-vis the Batswana coaches who have been there before.

Last season he inherited a team that was firing from all cylinders courtesy of the previous coach, Letang Kgengwenyane, who started the season on his own.

As for Police XI, the management of the club must be happy, as Maitumelo Junior Lotlamoreng has fitted quite well. However, the journey is still long hence a lot of resilience is needed.

As for rivals Chiefs and Rollers, we can only savour the moments towards the run-in.

Last season Rollers came from behind to steal the league from both Chiefs and BDF XI. Can they do it again? Time will tell.
