The Under-21 team will face MCC in two friendly matches at the Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) Oval.

BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar, told Mmegi Sport that the two friendlies would be used as part of a development programme aimed at building a solid future senior team.

MCC is expected in the country next Wednesday. The two will play 20 and 50 over matches. The one-day match would be played during the day while the T20 match is scheduled for the evening.

Damodar said the two matches would be a tough test for the newly formed Under-21 side.

Previously there were no Under-21s and players competed in the Under-19 section, which has been abolished.

The junior side has never faced overseas competition having played teams such as Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

He further said this tour is a major boost for the young team because it will add more knowledge and experience in their style of play.

Four local teams will also have an opportunity to play the English side.  Damodar said the BCA is in the process of selecting players to make up the four teams. Fixtures had not been confirmed at press time.

MCC is expected to bring a team with a mix of young and experienced players. It will conduct coaching clinics in schools around the country.

MCC is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world having been established in 1787 in London.  Its homeground is the famous Lords Cricket Ground.

It comprises of former England and Scottish cricketers who have a rich experience.

The club used to be the cricket governing body before the International Cricket Council (ICC) was established.
