His defence lawyer, Bonolo Dinokopila, told the court that he needed more time to study the document from the state and pleaded with the court to grant Shete bail.

“When he was arrested I requested that I be granted access to him, which I was refused, and was told that he had been taken to hospital.  I need more time to study the documents,” he said.

For her part, magistrate Abigal Masawi requested that she be given 14 days to gauge whether Shete is a candidate for bail.

Masawi ordered that Shete be remanded and appear for another mention on October 2, 2014.

The police have confirmed that Kgote’s body was discovered half-naked with fatal stab wounds on the neck.

They said that the deceased was killed in the wee hours of Sunday morning. It is still not clear what happened, but from what the police gathered it looks like the deceased was from a nearby drinking hole.

People say they last saw her there, next thing she was found dead outside her home, police confirmed.

Mmegi also learnt that Shete confessed to the murder charge after CCTV footage of him and Kgote showed that he had contact with the deceased hours before her death.

Shete, along with four of his friends, allegedly waited for the deceased a few metres from the drinking hole the deceased had been at. They then followed the deceased to her home.

Shete reportedly confessed that as they approached the deceased’s home she refused to grant him entry saying there were elders in the yard.

The accused allegedly further confessed that after tussling with Kgote, who was buried last weekend, he stabbed her with a bottle (shard) before raping her.

His lawyer could not confirm the confession stating that the police had denied him access to the accused.
