However, the journalist-cum-politician told Mmegi yesterday that he was on his way back home from South Africa where he had gone to write an examination.

“As we speak, I am crossing the border into Botswana. I have not dumped the campaign, or the constituency,” he said yesterday.

Solomon joined Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) shortly after its formation.

His absence sparked speculation that he had sought asylum after he reportedly claimed that security agents were after his life.

His close friend Moses Maruping, an editor at Echo confirmed that Solomon has told him that his life is in danger.

“He told me last week that he felt that his life was under threat. I don’t think you will be able to get hold of him.

“I advised him to inform his party and to police before he can go,” Maruping said.

On Tuesday, BMD secretary general said Wynter Mmolotsi they are not aware that their candidate is missing.

“Our members in that area could have informed the party.

There is no such report but I have heard such allegations. We did not take the matter serious because no one has reported it to us,” Mmolotsi said.
