Kweneng volunteers drilled on cricket

BCA development officers, Obert Musiyamhanje and Elvis Chipfumbu facilitated the course which was attended by 40 volunteers (both men and women) from different areas of Kweneng region.

Chipfumbu said they were impressed by the number of people who attended the course considering that it was the first of its kind in that area.

“We are impressed by the number because cricket is fairly new in that area,” he said.

He said the volunteers were drilled on the basics of cricket, including the rules of the game, the equipment used, players’a roles and umpiring. They also learnt the batting skills.  The course included mini-cricket game, which enabled the participants to put theory into practice.

“Some of them were encountering cricket game for the first time and they found it exciting and learnt in a fun but competitive way at the same time,” Chipfumbu said.

The participants were also given coaching and official skills. Chipfumbu said the expectation is that the participants would go out and develop the sporting code in the region, especially at schools.
