Police Public Relations officer, Near Bagali, said police received a report of the grisly discovery at 4.30pm.

“Upon arrival, the police discovered the decomposed body of an infant,” he said. “At this point, there have not been any arrests or leads as to the identity of the mother or father of the infant.”

A Mmegi newscrew arrived at the scene of the discovery shortly after police had already cleared the site. On the scene was Modiri Gofiwa who confirmed that police had taken the body away.

“I got to the scene after the police had cleared everything, but I heard others say they saw the decomposed body of the infant who was dumped there,” he said.

In a separate incident, Broadhurst police last Friday arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with attempting to steal copper cables at a company site in Block 3 industrial.

In a statement, police said the man was arrested after a tip-off, while two other suspects escaped.

Bagali told Mmegi that statistics from South Central Division show that seven cases of power cables theft were recorded last week alone.
