“Do not think that giving your children alone all the care and love in the world leaving behind needy children is worthy.

“As Africans, we know that a child belongs to the society.  A child is a member of the human family and belongs to all of us,” she said.

She said as such every adult should be concerned about the welfare of all children. Therefore I want you to care for all children knowing that your child is my child and vice versa,” she said.

She said every child needs love and guidance to realise his or her ambition. Phumaphi pointed out that children in some countries face challenges like rape, child labour, some are forced to join military forces at such an early age while others are exposed to evil acts such as killings and other bizarre behaviour.

She added that hope and faith is the anchor of conviction that we can solve these challenges.

“We are the only ones who can give these children wings to fly wherever they want. A child is the embodiment of what defines us as the human race. We have to make them into better people. We have to let them be the best they can be,” Phumaphi added.

She also advised the gathering to always be cautious of their acts as whatever they do should be in the interest of our children. Our children cannot do it alone without their peers.

They need each other, she said. Phumaphi told the gathering that since we live in a demographic dividend, we have to ensure that we take children out of poverty, ill health, lack of education and violence to groom them to become better people.

She commended SOS Village for their commitment and support in taking care of children who were in need and giving them the care, love and home that every child needs.

Giving his testimony as an adult brought up in the SOS Village, Best Koitsiwe who swept the audience off their feet with his heart warming testimony applauded the SOS for its care and love for underprivileged and needy children.

He said that as a father and husband, he gives his gratitude to God, SOS team and sponsors as they have given him hope and a second chance in life. He urged the gathering to keep up with their beautiful job and support other children so that they too can make something of their lives.

“Bakwena Oitsile was my superhero. At the time I did not realise it but now I know that I am who I am because of him,” the young man added almost in tears of joy. His wife came along to give him support.

The co-founder and Executive Chairperson of Community Investment Holdings Annah Mokgokong presented SOS with a whopping R100,000 checque.

She urged Batswana to partake in charity donations quoting a bible verse that says ‘blessed is the giving hand.’
