The physically well-sculpted model is confident that she has what it takes to be one of the most sought after models in the country, and across our borders.

“I started modelling while still a student at Francistown Senior Secondary School (FSSS) and back then, I did it just to pass time. It was only when I came to Gaborone a few years back to pursue a course at Botho Universiry that I met some professional models who became my friends and encouraged me to model too,” the 22-year-old from Moraka in North East said in an interview with Showbiz.  One of these friends is top local model Kesegofetse Senna. Mandy Love was later introduced to Queen Kolobe’s Madame Queen where she learned the ropes of modelling. Joining Madame Queen, which is one of the leading modelling schools in the country, proved to be a move in the right direction because she was soon invited to some of the best modelling gigs in the country.

“I have walked the ramp in all major malls in the city of Gaborone such as Riverwalk and Game City showcasing clothes for leading clothing shops. I have also done shots for publications such as Lapologa, Gazette and Kutlwano,” she said.

Modelling has opened doors for the Computing student and she has even had a small role in Ntwakgolo opposite the well-know actor, John ‘Mazabathi’ Makandla.

According to Mandy Love, pursuing her career has not been easy sailing as her parents, especially her mother had a problem with her modelling. Like some Batswana parents, they believed modelling was for immoral people with a laisser faizer attitude to life. “I had to work hard at school and also excel at modelling to prove that I meant business. In no time my parents saw that I was good at what I was doing and started to slowly embrace my modelling career,” said the model, adding that her biggest supporters are her sisters.

Interestingly, the petite Mandy Love told Showbiz that she keep her body fit and trim by playing rugby. She forms part of the women’s rugby team at Botho College.

Although she stands at 1,68 metres tall, some in the modelling industry might consider Mandy Love to be short, she points out that modelling is not only about height. “There are so many aspects of modelling that one can choose to specialise according to his or her body type, personality and strengths,” she said.

The model also said she has always admired Alek Wek and Kaone Kario and hopes to one day emulate them and strut her stuff on international ramps.

“I hope to be selected to be part of a top modelling competition in Africa. I intend to attend the auditions in South Africa soon. If I am chosen, this will certainly help me become the big model I have always wanted to be,” she said. So determined is Mandy Love to carve her own path that she has decided to part ways with Madame Queen in order to freelance as a model. Fortunately, the young woman has enough time to prove to her parents and everyone else that she has what it takes to be a super model.
