Corpse still unidentified, a week later- Police

A man’s body was found in a decomposed state last Thursday here near Nzano shopping complex in stagnant water under the Tati River bridge.

The police last week said that at the scene, they found nothing that could help them positively establish the identity of the deceased without the assistance of his family.

Police yesterday further said that after their efforts to identify the family of the deceased proved futile by Friday morning, the deceased was subsequently buried (on Friday).

“The body of the man was already at an advanced state of decomposition,  so it could not stay for a long-time at the mortuary while we (police) were still looking for family members of the deceased.

“A few people whose relatives have been missing, came to the police to identify the deceased only to find that the he was not the person they were actually looking for,” said station commander at Kutlwano  Superintendent Letsholathebe Mothibi yesterday in an interview with Mmegi.

Mothibi pleaded with members of the public to assist with information that could help the police make breakthrough on the matter.

He said that police have kept vital information that could assist the family of the deceased identify him should they be located.

The station commander also said that the police were yet to ascertain what could have killed the 30-year old.

 There have been rumours that the man could have been killed and dumped under the bridge which is still under construction.

“The body of the victim was inspected by doctors on Thursday and later a post-mortem was done. “We are still awaiting post-mortem and medical reports from the doctors.

The two reports will assist us establish what could have killed the deceased and if there was foul play or not,” highlighted Mothibi when responding to allegations made by the public.
