Plane crashes at Maun airport

 

It seems that the instructing pilot, a young South African, attempted to simulate engine failure after take off, but ended up demonstrating a proper crash to his student.

The crew were lucky to escape with minor injuries. Sources in Maun are suggesting that the Civil Aviation Authority is investigating a lack of regard for safety procedures and gross negligence as the root cause of the crash.

The company general manager Michael O’Brien was in South Africa at the time of the accident. Damage to the aircraft is extensive and will likely cost several millions of Pula to repair. The accident comes  during peak tourist season when the bulk of overseas tourists flood the area. The Civil Aviation Authority were not reachable at press time for comment.
