President issues writs of elections

He said Khama directed that nominations for parliamentary elections for all the 57 constituencies be held on September 25.

Rapoo said they would forward the writs of elections to returning officers so that they can communicate to the people.

He explained the issuance of writs paves the way for the amalgamation of the electoral roll.

“You must understand that IEC does not have powers to amalgamate the roll before writs of election is issued to them.

This is a normal practice every election year. Writs of election assures IEC that indeed elections will be hold on that day,” he said. The elections will be held on October 24.

Rapoo said those who wanted to contest should get prepared for the nominations. He urged voters to check their identity cards/Omang.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has also issued the instruments for council elections.

The instruments direct that nominations for council elections in all the 490 polling districts be held on September 25.
