Ngaka Ngaka, will now face a charge of causing grievous bodily harm, revealed sub-inspector Tshiamo Montshiwa to the Molepolole Magistrate Lindiwe Makgoro yesterday.

Defence lawyer, Mogakolodi Segwagwa, told the court that they would need more time to study the fresh documents filed by the state.

Ngaka, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was notably in court for the first time without his wife by his side.

He will appear in court after the case was postponed yet again.  If convicted for the offence he will attract a sentence of imprisonment of not less than seven years or more than 14 years.

In his next appearance on November 3, 2014, Montshiwa said that the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) would be involved.

He said that the DPP would be taking over the case from the police.

According to the prosecution, the 39-year-old parliamentary hopeful, who will contest against Filbert Nagafela of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and Richard Tametu of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), allegedly assaulted his wife on October 11, 2013.

In February 2014, the couple treated onlookers to a public lover’s quarrel with Ngaka’s wife later posting pictures of her knee surgery on social media.

“Lying in a hospital bed putting my trust in the Lord o sekeng a pallwa ke sepe. Some day rewards from heaven for all of us shall be seen by everybody,” she had posted at the time.
