The vehicle belongs to the BDP Francistown South constituency.

The suspects in the break in were only apprehended on Monday and it later turned out that the BDP car was used to aid the suspects in an incident which goods amounting to P36 000 were stolen.

According to sources who are closer to the events, a man who is a burglary suspect in a case, which involves a house belonging to Francistown South Parliamentary candidate Wynter Mmolotsi, is the one who tipped the police about the Montana robbery after his arrest on Saturday.

He is believed to be closer to the man involved in the Montana incident.

One of the six suspects who were involved in the break in and theft is said to have been a BDP activist who was designated to drive the party vehicle according to sources closer to the events. Of the six suspects one is a woman according to the police.

It is said the six suspects arrested on Monday and the one who robbed Mmolotsi reside at low-income location of Block Seven and neighbouring areas within Francistown South.

Yesterday station commander at Kutlwano Police superintendent Letsholathebe Mothibi confirmed that the police are investigating a case in connection to the Montana robbery, but was not ready to provide further details as the matter is still under investigation.

“The six suspects will appear in court probably tomorrow or Friday where charges will be read to them.

The suspects include five man and a women. They will be charged with guest house break in and theft.

They are currently in police custody,” Mothibi said yesterday.

He also confirmed the arrest of a man who robbed Mmolotsi on Saturday but was cagey as to when he will appear in court.

Sources have further said that the car parks at the Francistown South campaign manager Polokego Letsholo after working hours. He was said to be at the cattle post on the day of the robbery.

Yesterday the BDP chairman in the Francistown region, Ford Moiteela said that the party is aware that the party vehicle is said to have been involved in a theft case.

“We have approached the police and they have told us that they are yet to ascertain if the party vehicle was involved or not but we are aware that the party vehicle is said to have been involved in the robbery,” Moiteela said.

He also confirmed that one of the party activists and driver of a party car in the Francistown South constituency is said to have been involved in the break in and theft incident.

“We screen those who want to assume positions of responsibility within the party. However at times those who have the potential to do disorderly things can be allowed to assume positions of responsibility without being easily detected,” he said.

Should the police prove that the car was used in the break in he added, “The part leadership will then have to meet the Francistown South election campaign manager who is the custodian of the car to get a glimpse of how the car could have ended up being used in break in”.
