The other name in the yet to be finalised list is cabinet minister, Mokgweetsi Masisi. Yesterday, BOFEPUSU said it would go all out to ensure that workers do not vote for Khama and certain candidates from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Although the hit list is not yet complete, the federation’s leadership told the media that  they would de-campaign all the ‘bootlickers’. The final hit list is expected to be out in two weeks.

The BOFEPUSU secretary for labour, Johnson Motshwarakgole said they will be advertising and holding meetings with workers to sensitise them about the need to vote out Khama. “In our adverts, we will remind the people about all events that have happened during Khama’s era. In 2011, he clearly told us that we will meet during election time. This is the time and Batswana should stand up to fight for what they believe is right,” Motshwarakgole said.

“Ga ke is eke bone motho yoo ratang go bokiwa. Ke sone se o bonang a kgona go ikgantsha ka go supa gore o kgona go ha bahumanegi mo BTV. Bana ba batho ba tshegwa ke ba bangwe mo dikolong ka bohumanegi ja bone.” He said what Khama is doing is not different to what is happening in Zimbabwe. Motshwarakgole said the arrest of Sunday Standard editor, Outsa Mokone is an attack on democracy.

He said this is a way of silencing and intimidating the media.  BOFEPUSU deputy secretary general, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa said the government’s intention is to target journalists who write about the state’s secrecy on corruption issues.

“We will go all out to support Mokone, either by speaking out in different forums or financially if the issue comes to push. We will share this with our friends in America, British and other countries,” Motshegwa said.
