Govt, BFA strike constituency tournaments deal

Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, Ruth Maphorisa released a statement yesterday saying the tournaments will continue to be administered by government with the technical management by the association. BFA president, Tebogo Sebego is said to have made the agreement in a meeting with president Ian Khama. The meeting was also attended by the acting Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Vincent Seretse as well as FIFA development officer, Ashford Mamelodi. “It is expected that BFA will make necessary representation to FIFA.

It was recognised by all three parties that the tournaments play a very important role towards the promotion of the game of football in the country. The BFA is to communicate this agreed joint role to FIFA and the expectation is that it will resolve any misunderstandings that may have occurred on the matter in the past,” Maphorisa said in the statement.  FIFA had threatened to suspend Botswana from football activities if a solution had not been reached by September 22. It is unclear if FIFA will accept the arrangement.
