UDC campaign member found half-naked, dead

The woman appeared to be half-naked and had fatal stab wounds on the neck, police have confirmed. UDC parliamentary candidate for the area, Same Bathobakae, also confirmed the incident yesterday.

Station Officer Crime, Assistant Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae, said that because it is a fresh matter the police have not gathered enough information nor do they have any leads. He said the deceased was killed in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

“It is still not clear what happened, but from what we have gathered so far it looks like the deceased was from a nearby drinking hole.  People say they last saw her there, next thing she was found dead outside her home,” Lokae said.

Lokae further stated that the woman’s body was found naked from the waist down.  He said that although the police cannot put it past rape they could not confirm such allegations.

“We are still waiting for the post-mortem results, we cannot rule out that she may have been raped.  For now we do not have any reason to believe she was raped, except that she was found naked from the waist down. Her shorts where thrown a distance away from the crime scene,” he said. A distraught relative of the deceased told Mmegi that she last saw her sister on Saturday afternoon. She said that they attended a party meeting in Kgale where her sister left her.

“To my surprise on Sunday morning when I woke up, I was met by the sight of police officers loitering around our yard,” she said.

“At first the police did not want to tell me what had happened, but I noticed that something was afoot and that they did not want us to look near a tree outside our compound.

“The officer later told me that there was a crime scene, and that my sister had been murdered.  “We do not know what has happened yet and we just want justice to take its course and for the culprits to face the law,” she said.

The woman will be buried this weekend.
