Station Commander, superintendent Letsholathebe Mothibi confirmed the murder, suspected to have taken place early hours of Friday at Block 10, where the young woman was renting a house.

“Indeed we are investigating a murder case which involves the death of a third-year student at ABM University College who hails from Serowe. The matter was reported to us at around 4am and it seems like the incident took place at around 2am. “We are not yet sure of how the deceased might have met her death but it seems like a sharp instrument was used to kill her. In the meantime, the deceased’s body is still at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem which would be conducted on Wednesday,” said Mothibi.

He said they were also still to establish the motive, but suspicion was that it was a male friend.

“According to the look of things, the two seems to have been involved in a relationship,” Mothibi said. Mothibi said that they managed to catch the suspect the same morning. He said they have caught a 25-years old man who comes from Mmutlane. Mothibi said the accused man is said to have been doing his Internship at the Post Office in Francistown.

“We have a suspect as we speak now, but he is still hospitalised at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital. We suspect that he tried to kill himself afterwards by taking drugs, which are unknown to us. But we are not yet sure of all the facts as the investigations are still ongoing,” Mothibi said.

In the meantime, Mothibi noted that so far since the beginning of this year, they have registered only two cases of murder at the Blocks location including this one. He said though murder low numbers of such crime.

He added that though they do not know yet what might have caused the misunderstanding between the two, the police are encouraging the couples to always involve the third person whenever they have disputes.  He said the third party could help resolve their differences and avoid such incidents, which are tragic like murder.
