The robbers made away with cash in the region of P20 000 and the couple’s Ford Mondeo sedan, according to police station commander Lebalang Maniki.

Maniki said the no one was hurt in the robbery of the Chinese couple, who are in their 50s.

“The car is also yet to be recovered. We are also yet to get any meaningful lead in the case but I remain very optimistic that those who were involved in the robbery will be apprehended soon,” said Maniki.

The robbers are said to have used a weapons believed to be knives in their cause of the act.

The station commander expressed worry about business people who, instead of banking, keep large sums of cash in their houses.

“Opting to keep a lot of cash at home is not safe at all. Business people should desist from constantly keeping a lot of money at home,” he said.

This is the second robbery recorded by the central police in a space of two weeks, said the police chief. “Around three men robbed a Chinese shop in the Central Business District (CBD) two weeks ago, during the midweek period and made away with cash amounting to approximately P24 000. No one was hurt in the robbery but the assailants are also yet to be arrested,” he said.

In that robbery, Maniki said a gun is believed to have been used. He also said there is no evidence linking the two incidents.
