Zeus receives Channel O nomination

The rapper has been nominated for the acclaimed awards a couple of times already, emerging the category winner three times.

He received his first Channel O nomination in 2008.  To date, he is the only Motswana who has won in the Channel O awards, which are one of the highly recognised awards in the continent. This year he has been nominated for the Most Gifted Southern Artist with his song Psych.  He will be contending against South African artists DJ Clock featuring Beatenberg’s Pluto, Cassper Nyovest’s Doc Shebeleza, AKA‘s Congratulate and K.O. featuring Kid X’S Caracara.  Nominees for the 2014 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards were announced in Johannesburg last Thursday.Last year the artist scooped the Most Gifted Male Video award at the 10th annual Channel O awards for the song Dats Wasup featuring AKA and Tumi.

Zeus is no stranger to winning at the Channel O awards.  In 2009 he emerged victorious at the awards for the Best Hip Hop Video for Gijima.  His Channel O nominations include Best Raggae Dancehall for his song Imagination, which put him on the map in 2008 as well as his 2010 nomination for Champagne Music and 2012 for his song Dancing Shoes.

To this day, Zeus has released three albums, Freshly Baked in 2008, Flipside in 2009 and African Time in 2013.  African Time features a number of artists including AKA, Tumi, Kwela Tebza and Mahotella Queens among others. He also has a mixtape, Honey I’m Home, which was released in 2012.  Zeus has also been nominated in two categories for the upcoming Yarona fm Music Awards (YAMA) for the following categories, Artist of The Year and Best Hip Hop and Motswako. This year South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest and K.O. dominate the nominations, with Nigeria’s Davido matching their five nods each. 

Nyovest is nominated for Most Gifted Male Video, Most Gifted Newcomer Video, Most Gifted Hip Hop Video, Most Gifted Southern Video as well as Most Gifted Video of the Year categories for Doc Shebeleza.  K.O. makes his début nomination as a solo artist in the categories of Most Gifted Male Video, Most Gifted Duo/group or Featuring Video, Most Gifted Hip Hop Video, Most Gifted Southern Video and Most Gifted Video of the Year. Davido represents West Africa with nominations for Aye in the categories of Most Gifted Male Video, Most Gifted Afro-pop Video, Most Gifted West Video and Most Gifted Video of the Year, while Skelewu earned him the most Gifted Dance Video nomination.  The awards are set to take place at Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto on Saturday, November 29.  Voting is free via www.channelo.tv.  Voters are allowed to vote up to 100 times starting from 7pm on Thursday until midnight on November 23.
