Should Batswana vote for the opposition, then they should know they would have stabbed themselves in the belly. “This opposition is not capable of leading us on our journey of continuing our economic recovery, and of taking us onto the next level of our development. We cannot risk putting our economic recovery in their hands,” he said. Khama said the theme of the fundraising dinner “ The Pre-Requisites of a successful Entrepreneur in an African Environment; What Can Botswana Learn or Benchmark from various Empowerment Models?” reflected the BDP’s determination to develop Batswana and the country’s economy. He said the theme was a challenge to democrats and the nation at large to come up with innovative ideas so as to create jobs for all.

“It is through entrepreneurship that we as a country will create wealth and more jobs for Batswana. This theme should in each one of us the feeling that is through the greatness of individual citizens and local communities that better nations and unions are built,” he said

Khama said the BDP had steered Botswana from being one of the poorest countries in the world to a middle-income country with free education and health care for all.

Furthermore the BDP had fostered a vibrant democracy in which ideas were debated, a free press and transparent systems where an independent judiciary presided over cases of corruption.

Meanwhile South Africa billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe praised Botswana for reducing among others poverty, unemployment, and corruption.

“The country has good roads as compared to other African countries. [It] has managed to recover from global recession and ensured that it kept its people’s jobs, something that is commendable,” Motsepe said. He also praised Botswana for its democratic credentials.
