Domkgrag, as the ruling party is affectionately known among its followers sold 90 tables for the gala held at Boipuso Hall. It was an over subscription of 20 tables or P200,000. Initially the BDP had budgeted to sell 70 tables and make P700,000.
There were more pledges of undisclosed amounts, also made on the evening, but unlike many other gala dinners the party has hosted in the past where donors were announced, this time, the BDP corporate friends chose to be anonymous to the media.
A bull was also auctioned and was bought by former BDP chairman Guma Moyo for P38,000.
Some of the companies that were acknowledged for helping include Bolux group, ZAC Construction, Executive Catering, AT&T Monnakgotla travel and tours, AFA, SAFARI, Zambezi Motors, WEBB Motors, Planet Lodge, Sam Associates, Show Group Production amongst others.
The guest of the night was South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe. Former president Sir Ketumile Masire, also attended. The BDP finance committee chairman Thapelo Olopeng told the attendants at the dinner.
“We reached our target through hard work with my committee. I also want to thank BDP members and sympathisers who found it fit to assist us with ideas and funds,” he said.
The BDP also raised money through pledges that were made by different companies and individuals. The pledge form was signed with details and given to the finance committee which will later follow up on the donations.
