Mmolotsi becomes the latest opposition leader to have his house broken into following that of UDC president Duma Boko and Sedirwa Kgoroba in Gaborone.

Mmolotsi confirmed the burglary to The Monitor on Friday saying he was home with his wife, children, and house help when the house was broken into.

“We were sleeping when the break in took place. We did not hear anything, only to realise in the morning when we woke up that our house had been broken into.

“We even overslept and woke up late,” said Mmolotsi.

According to Mmolotsi, the culprits gained entry into the house through the window, though the window was left intact. “It seems like they used something to open it (the window) and they got away with two cellphones, a Blackberry Curve and a Nokia Lumia worth P4,000 in total.

“They also stole our identity cards (Omang).

Mmolotsi also said that it appeared the intruders tried taking their television set as well, but, must have abandoned it outside the yard when they were scared by passers-by. “So it seems like the thieves dropped the television after they saw those people,” said Mmolotsi.

Apparently, Mmolotsi and his family were still assessing the burglary when The Monitor called because he said they were not sure the cellphones and identity documents were the only items missing nforthe house.  Mmolotsi said what surprised them about the burglary was that his house in Block 4 was the most secure in the neighbourhood.  “The house has an electric fence and wall. I am wondering why the culprits could have left other homes with only a fence around them, where they could have got easy entry and preferred to come to my house,” said Mmolotsi.

Though Mmolotsi said that he reported the case to the police on Friday morning, Kutlwano Police Station Commander Letsholatshebe Mothibi said that he was not aware of the matter as he was not in the station on Friday.  “I am not aware of the matter yet because I am not in the station at the moment. I am at Central Police Station on other work matters. I have not heard of any reports of house break-in in my area yet,” he said on Friday afternoon.
