Limkokwing honoures PHK, as over 900 graduate

Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, Ponatshego Kedikilwe was among the decorated lot as he was bestowed with the  Honorary Doctorate of Leadership tobecome the third leader from Botswana to receive the decoration from this university since former President Festus Mogae, and former Education Minister Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi were honoured.

The  Limkokwing award recognises Dr Kedikilwe’s leadership in strengthening the national economy through rebuilding of the Botswana economy that has included effective use of national resources.

The university has awarded various Honorary Doctorates to  Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa,  as well as to  Dato’Sri Mohd Najib Tun haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Lordship Baron Sheikh of Cornhill, City of London, The United Kingdom and His Majesty King Mswati III Kingdom of Swaziland among others. Of the 945 students who graduated, a total of 21 students were presented with Awards of Excellence under the following categories;

* Tan Sri Limkokwing Award for Academic Excellence which is an award given to students who have achieved academic excellence, scoring the highest CGPA per faculty. Eight  Students got this award.

* Tan Sri Limkokwing Award for Leadership which is an award given to students who have displayed leadership qualities  Seven students walked away with this award.

* Tan Sri Limkokwing Award for Creativity & Innovation, which is awarded to students who have shown academic ability and professionalism in executing works of distinctive merit that are highly recognized by the creative industry. Six Students got the award.

The university’s regional director corporate and media relations Mercy Thebe described their 945 graduates as most future ready professionals to indulge Botswana’s community with the most creative, innovative and best techno–savvy solutions towards industry needs. 

Celebrated under the theme; “The Future is now in your hands”, the  2014 graduation underscores the capabilities and mindset that the university has fostered in their  graduating students.

“The words; “The future is now in your hands’ are meant to inspire; as well as define the calibre and mindset of our graduating class which is highly skilled, highly adaptive, highly competitive and highly enterprising tech savvy creative thinkers,” says Thebe

“Limkokwing Botswana is pushing the education transformation envelope and is leading the way as the Innovation and Creativity Hub of Africa, and this is evident through this most globalised cohort of young professionals which is not only from Botswana but also includes students from the following countries  Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Africa, Pakistan  Zambia and Zimbabwe”, Thebe adds.

According to the director the Class of 2014’s contribution is clearly defined with effective channels of communications that if realised, would make the realisation of such; a positive substantial work environment.

“Through effective communications, Limkokwing University’s Class of 2014 bring with them an array of attributes of appreciating, contributing and supporting Botswana’s goals and objectives and are motivated to achieve maximum performance and provide superior, cost-effective service”. Thebe further elaborated that Limkokwing University global graduates in general practice; carry the best results that are often achieved through a mix of traditional and contemporary media.

 They are fully effective, and carry a genuine commitment to creating dialogues that involve and inform creative industries.

Some of the skills the class of 2014 bring to the market include managing new media technology, a problem-solving mindset that seeks innovative solutions to issues and an entrepreneurial spirit that will benefit Botswana as it builds its competitiveness following the new global order as we press towards 2016 and the soon to be birthed new vision, according to Thebe.

“The class of 2014 have on several occasions participated and supported a lot of government and industry related initiatives as well as projects and for that we couldn’t be more confident that we are releasing a cohort of global graduates who are industry ready, with the future truly in their creative and innovative hands.

The class of 2014’s academic achievement will boost the human capital of Botswana that is needed for the creative and innovative technology industries.

With the quality education that they have been equipped with, they have been encouraged to embrace a mindset that goes beyond employability to focus on ground breaking capability and industry leadership. The breakdown of the 945 students graduating; per each faculty.

* 205 from the Faculty of Business Globalisation and Tourism Hospitality,

* 126 from the Faculty of Information Technology,

* 145 from the Faculty of Design and Innovation

* 291 from the Faculty of Communication Media & Broadcasting

* 113 from the Faculty of Creative Multimedia and

* 65 from the Faculty of Architecture & the Built Environment.

Three of the 945 graduating students are from the university’s Special Needs Department.

The university is ultra proud of this group of students comprising of one male and two females who persevered through all the challenges they faced with their disabilities with the support of the university and the use of specialised equipment to finally get to the finish line and graduate with a solid tertiary credential.

During their academic journey with Limkokwing, this special group of students were able to learn what their peers were learning through the assistance, care and dedication of our staff, as well as the use of specialised equipment they used to study such as Braille user, talking calculators, large font user, computer installed zoom text, sara reader and CCTV & Ruby magnifier, just to mention a few.
