Lost to politics: Nthobelang

Lost to politics: Nthobelang

“Yes I can confirm that I resigned this week. This is an election year and I have realised that I will use more time campaigning and football might suffer so this was the best option for me,” he explained yesterday.

He said his resignation was based purely on his political interest and nothing else. Nthobelang is the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) parliamentary candidate for Mahalapye East.

He said besides the fact that it is an election year, the Zebras also have a busy schedule and need someone who has time.

The Zebras are fighting for a place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. They take on Tunisia this Saturday before hosting Senegal next Wednesday.

Nthobelang denied reports that he is not in good terms with some BFA officials.

However, he stated that he had some challenges at the association and accused some officials of interfering with his work.

Nthobelang became BFA vice president two years ago as a member of the so-called Friends of Football.

He was voted into office together with the current BFA president, Sebego and additional member, Basadi Akoonyatse.

He replaced Dintle Mphele.
