Teams arrive for African States Tournament

The bowling competition is hosted on a rotational basis by member states. The last tournament was in Namibia.

Kitso Robert, the Botswana Bowling Association chairperson said everything is on track for the tournament. Lebogang Mascarenhas will represent Botswana in the singles discipline. She will also partner with Pauline Lekone to compete in the pairs. The triples women’s team has Obopile Ashby (skip), Bonnie Fox (second), and Tirelo Buckley who will play as a lead. The fours team is made up of Ashby (skip), Fox (third), Buckley (second) and Lekone (lead).

The national men’s champion, Tim Morton will campaign in the singles category. The men’s team is made up of Robert (lead) and with Morton as his skip.

Oabona Motladiile (skip), Diane Senna (second) and Khumo Kebalatetse (lead) make the women trips team. The men’s rinks has Motladiile (skip), Senna (third), Robert (second) and Kebalatetse who will lead the team. Te tournament ends on September 13

Robert explained that no changes have been made to the team that played against a Mafikeng Select a fortnight ago at the same venue. Meanwhile, BBA vice chairperson, John Gaborutwe said the AST is not used as a qualifier.

“The winners in the singles will only get world rating points ahead of the World Champion of Champions slated for later this year,” he explained. He said winners in the singles discipline in respective countries have already qualified for the World Championships to be held in New Zealand.
