The series, which is a product of Barclays Bank in partnership with the Company at Maitisong, will be broadcast on Yarona fm, Mondays and Fridays at 6:50 am.

Maitisong director, Gao Lemmenyane, said Madi Majwana is an extension of the theatrical play Pula Money Matters. He added that although they believe they did well with Pula Money Matters they wanted to expand and take Madi Majwana to a bigger platform so that it reaches a wider audience.

Lemmenyane revealed that 20 episodes would be aired on radio, explaining that the show would run until February next year. He said that through Madi Majwana they aim to encourage the audience to analyse their personal relationship with money, and seek to gain more knowledge on money related matters so that they are able to make informed decisions.

“Madi Majwana aims to tell stories of ordinary people and their struggles with money. The series will explore many issues on money that people sometimes fail to understand yet never ask detailed questions on,” he said.

He said that sometimes people sign contracts when they do not fully understand the terms and conditions.

He added that the issues to be addressed include household debt, budgeting and living beyond one’s means, which many people are familiar with.

He added that the drama approaches these issues in a way that is both educational and informative.

In addition, Lemmenyane pointed out that, although they are targeting everyone their main objective remains enlightening young people. He said that the plan is to take the series to schools to make sure that students get firsthand information on money issues.

Also, Maitisong will host a launch of Madi Majwana in the evening.

The launch will include a sample of the radio series as well as a stage play of the series.  The stage production is meant to complement the radio drama and will go on a nationwide tour.

Lemmenyane added that they are also targeting other radio stations to make sure that the drama reaches a lot more listenership.
