He said they approached FILA for assistance as they did not have funds to travel to the congress.

Sharp said had it not been for FILA’s aid, they would have missed the biennial congress.

He said the Botswana delegation will get an opportunity to address the congress on issues such as the development of wrestling in the country.

BWF delegates will also seek assistance to recruit qualified wrestling instructors for the federation’s grassroots development programme.

“During the congress, we will come up with a new FILA constitution that will include a new set of rules. We are also going to change the name of the federation to United World Wrestling (UWW).

A new executive committee will be elected into office and it will run the organisation for the next two years. Botswana will also be given a chance to cast a vote,” said Sharp.

He said BWF is working hard to see wrestling grow and need the assistance of the international community because the sport is still new in Botswana.

He commended FILA for the assistance that it has rendered as BWF seeks to establish itself.
