Motswaledi was described as one of the country’s finest and most versatile conductors, foremost music educators, and the youngest, most dynamic music leader.
Gape Motswaledi, received the honour on his behalf. He spoke about how his brother started his musical journey at an early age and then enhanced his musical training at public schools. He also described him as having a rare talent and genius for music, both as a writer and conductor.
The Trinity Church Choir hosted the well attended glittering gala dinner and music dance in honour of the past and present music conductors’ contributions to the music profession as conductors, educators, and most importantly music composers.
They included the late Lucas Makgema as the first ever conductor for the choir, the late Agnes Boitumelo Sekgwa, the late Timothy Senzo Makgato from South Africa, Miriam Tebogo Lesole, who is also deceased, Maipato Johnson, Bontle Gaboutlwelwe and Ntsane Samuel Moriama.
The Trinity Church Choir has grown in leaps and bounds and has attracted invitations from countries as far as Namibia, Mozambique and Scotland. This success they attribute to the talented conductors who contributed their time and energy into making what the choir is today. Furthermore, the conductors were praised as equally for their ability to lead great symphonies and large choral works.
Even though many of those who were honoured are no longer alive, one could see that their music talent and genius resonated in the choir that serenaded the audience throughout the event. The Trinity church choir, that provided the only entertainment for the evening, performed amazing renditions of the classical church songs to which they they added a touch of choral flair to.
