UB anniversary celebrated in style

Unlike other dinner dances’ that are mostly known to have many speeches, the UB foundation rather preferred that there should be more music and only two speeches by UB foundation chairman Satar Dada and the keynote address by Dr Martyn Davies.

The guests were entertained by women of jazz and Dj Boggie Sid.  Just after vice chancellor of UB, professor Thabo Fako gave a welcoming remarks the guests were served starters.

The event was graced by two former presidents Festus Mogae and Sir Ketumile Masire, foundation vice chairman Linah Mohohlo, and Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO) of different companies, chairman for UB council Parks Tafa and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) president Dumelang Saleshando.

Dada said they will be investing in the future of the UB and the nation. He said the fundraising event marks yet another milestone in their quest to advance, promote and support the mission and vision of the UB as a leading academic centre of excellence in Africa and the world.

“We have the responsibility to address and help solve the many the many social challenges facing the nation, region and world through research, teaching and community development. We prepare our graduates to assume leadership roles to meet the nation’s manpower development needs and to contribute to the well being of the community in which they live,” Dada said.

He said UB has awarded over 180 graduate scholarships across all university faculties.

The UB foundation achievements include commitment by Laurelton Diamonds Botswana to sponsor the Disability Support Services (DSS) unit at the UB for the amount of P664,000 over three years. 

The sponsorship by BancABC amounting to P270,000 over three years towards the foundation’s annual fundraising golf event, the Books Botswana scholarship amounting to P15,000 given to different faculties within the university on a yearly rotational basis, Northern Trust Scholarship valued at USD75,000 over three years to cover graduate students in business, economics and statistics, funding of over P261,000 by Cash Bazaar Holdings towards the establishment of a tourism programme.
