Kgafela appeals

Kgafela’s defence had wanted Mafikeng High Court to pronounce who is the rightful Moruleng chief between him and his uncle Nyalala Pilane.

In her ruling, Judge Monica Leeuw dismissed Kgafela’s application with costs and ordered that both Kgafela’s and Pilane’s defence take the matter to the commission to establish who should be Bakgatla’s senior leader in South Africa. The North West province Premier heads the commission and also elects members.

A lawyer and Kgafela loyalist, Rampho Pheto, confirmed the appeal decision.

“We met on Friday whereupon we laid down our proposal. We met again yesterday and resolved that a senior defence counsel be engaged. I can however assure you that the Kgosikgolo will appeal,” he said.

Pheto said the judge had tossed the matter and instead referred both parties to a commission.  “Imagine Kgafela appearing before the commission draped in a leopard skin and Nyalala wearing a simple coat? It is obvious who the real leader is.”
