BAA meets over Montsho

The meeting came in the wake of a directive from the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) to BAA to determine Montsho’s fate.

BAA spokesperson, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba said early yesterday that officials are expected to meet later in the day to discuss the issue.

“The IAAF has written to us and we will meet today to discuss the matter.  We have to respond to IAAF,” Ramatshaba said.

Montsho faces a two-year ban after she accepted the doping results that found she had taken a banned substance methylhexaneamine. She has decided against challenging the results.

“The athlete is disqualified from the 2014 Commonwealth Games and all her performance results duly nullified,” said the Commonwealth Games Federation Court (CGFC) in a statement.

The matter was referred to the IAAF, which sent it to BAA for appropriate sanction to be imposed on the former 400m world champion.   The IAAF has advised that in the meantime, Montsho is provisionally suspended from all competitions pending a decision by BAA.
