The two giants were locked at 0-0 in the second half and with both under pressure to win, the 22-year-old Boy showed big match temperament to give his side victory.

He received the ball way outside the 18-yard area, realised that BDF XI goalkeeper was out of his line and chipped the ball over him to send Molepolole Sports Complex into wild celebrations.

The solitary strike was enough to hand Rollers their first win of the season and there was no better time to do it for Boy than when national team coach, Peter Butler was watching from the stands.  He immediately received a call up to the national team this week.

“When I received that ball, I think the goalkeeper might have thought I would try and play a through ball to one of my teammates and tried to close down the space.

I realised he was out of line and took a shot and that was it,” Boy explains.

Joining Rollers from relegated Miscellaneous, the player started pre-season in spectacular style in the Kabelano Charity Cup. Madinda Ndlovu threw the young player into the deep end against Gunners in the second semi-final of the one-day spectacular. And what a way to start a career at a new club! Boy scored a brace and provided assists in the 7-0 routing of Gunners.

His performance earned him a starting berth in a squad rich of talent and he has been doing well despite his team failing to win its first two league games.

Boy’s talents were recognised at a very early age while he was in Standard One at Selebi- Phikwe Primary School.

He was invited to join the school team but declined until he was in Standard Three. He went onto play for Meepong Junior School and later, Swaneng Hill Senior School.

However, before he enrolled at Swaneng, Boy was part of the team that represented the Selebi-Phikwe area at the Botswana Games when he was doing Form Three in 2009.

His team finished fourth at the games. After Form Five at Swaneng, he decided to play for a local team in Serowe called Dotcom in the constituency tournaments.

Little did he know that he was just about to get his breakthrough. While playing in the tournament, someone spotted him and took him to Miscellaneous.

“That was during pre-season in 2012. I trained with them, played a couple of friendly games and that was it,” he says with a smile. Although he was happy he had made it into the team, he did not expect to find his name in the line-up when Miscellaneous kicked-off the season against Notwane at that time.

Miscellaneous was under the tutelage of Chippa Keolese. In the second game against ECCO City Greens, he scored a free-kick and immediately became a key member of the team when he was only 20-years-old.

With Miscellaneous failing to survive relegation, Boy had already caught the eye of several Premier League teams and Rollers wasted no time in snapping him up.

“When I heard that Rollers were interested, I was excited and grateful that people could actually realise that I am a good player. The technical team here advised me not to put myself under any unnecessary pressure and play my normal game. That is why I never struggled to adapt.”

Having already achieved some of his dreams including playing for one of the big guns in local football and the national team, Boy has now set his eyes on the South African Premiership.

His wish is to see himself playing in the South African league that has become a home for several Botswana players including Joel Mogorosi and Mogakolodi Ngele.
