Botswana hosts four-nations girls cricket tournament

The competition is taking place at the Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) Oval. It bowls-off at 9:30am with two matches - between Botswana and Mozambique in Oval A and Zimbabwe and Namibia in Oval B.  BCA chief executive officer, Girish Ramakrishana told Mmegi Sport the tournament would help Botswana to gauge its strength.

“There are a lot of tournaments these girls have to compete in. It is important for us to get them tournaments like this one, so they could gauge their readiness for bigger competitions,” said Ramakrishna. He added that all the participating countries are strong as they have been playing cricket for sometime now.

“These countries cannot be taken lightly, especially Mozambique and Zimbabwe who started playing cricket a long time back. Playing against them will always be tough,” said Ramakrishna.

He said the Botswana would not undermine its opponents as it wants to win the competition.

The BCA chief said the team is highly motivated after undergoing rigorous training. The girls played their Under-19 boys counterparts to as preparations for the tournament.

“Preparations have been superb. I am really happy with what I saw at our girls’ training and credit must go to the coach, Innocent Chando who made sure that we produce a strong and motivated side which will make the country proud,” Ramakrishna said. The tournament ends on Sunday.
