Modukanele, who is the former BOSETU secretary general, emerged the winner at the organisation’s triennial elective congress, which also marked BOSETU’s 10th anniversary in Palapye on Tuesday.

Modukanele succeeds Shandukani Hlabano who served two consecutive terms. “I feel humbled to be given this high position within the union structures and I am committed together with my committee to deliver on the mandate of the union. If we do not deliver, the constitution empowers you (members) to recall us,” he said.

He said that challenges that the newly elected leadership will face, among others will be all issues pertaining to the bargaining council, teaching council and the public service act.

Mogomotsi Motshegwa emerged the winner in the position of vice president by 233 votes against Totlo Dibeela and Tony Modise’s respective 91 and 53 votes.

It was not the first time Motshegwa has contested the position of VP as he previously lost in a closely contested battle against 50-year-old Tebogo Sebogodi.

Sebogodi did not contest the election this time. Tobokani Rari was unopposed for the position secretary general, which he has held since 2011.

Innocent Mannathoko, who was also the incumbent going into the election trounced Linda Sekgopa and Botshelo Maruatona by 138 votes against 73 and 56 respectively for the position vice secretary general.

Gofanna Wadipeba emerged victorious against Samuel Oboneng for the position of national treasurer in one of the closest battles at the polls, when the former clinched 136 against the latter’s 132.

Publicity Secretary Solomon Batsietswe also successfully defended his position with a slight margin of two votes against George Showa.

Ompatile Modise was voted the union’s national organising secretary having attracted 166 votes to Wabo Tshosa’s 103 votes.

Hernel Kaisara was unopposed in the position of secretary for sports and culture. Dibotlhale Radipeba was also unopposed in the position of secretary for Pre and Primary Education sector while Mpho Maruping won the position of secretary for Secondary Education Sector with 111 votes against Moruakgomo Mogae’s 73, and One Radikolo’s 84 votes.

Refilwe Molemane was elected gender affairs secretary with 117 votes against Kennedy Dudzani and Kadzi Ncube who got 105 and 47 votes respectively. The position of Research Education and Training went to Moses Kandjou who was unopposed.

Mosa Modise and Edwin Maitshoko were elected additional members.
