Masisi said this during Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry and Gaborone North parliamentary candidate, Keletso Rakhudu’s launch over the weekend. He told voters to be wary of opposition tactics because the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is committed to closing the poverty gap and implementing permanent solutions to Batswana’s economic plight.

“We have been ridiculed about programmes such as Ipelegeng and many will use that to mislead you forgetting that BDP is the same party which has taken this country out of poverty and ensured most Batswana lead a decent life,” he said.

Masisi said while programmes like Ipelegeng are temporary, BDP intends to implement its mandate of creating permanent employment.

He further said if opposition were given a chance to rule, they would take the country down the drain within two years of leadership. “Be wary of people who make unrealistic promises. They are only looking for your votes and they will trick you if you aren’t careful,” he cautioned.

Masisi also rubbished claims that the BDP plans to rig elections, saying this is a ploy to tarnish the party’s image and make voters’ lose faith in the BDP. Other speakers at the launch included Botsalo Ntuane, Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri and Benard Bolele.
