Santu will be going to pursue a Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering courtesy of a partnership between the Institute Of Industrial Health and Safety Management (IIHSM) and Wuhan University in China. IIHSM is a training and consultancy firm whose main business is to educate and train in mining related workplace training. Currently the company has 42 accredited training programmes with Botswana Qualification Authority (BQA).

Speaking at the farewell dinner, IIHSM Chief Executive Officer Tirelo Phalalo said through their hard work and perseverance, strategic management and good leadership, they have been able to network internationally to improve their products and services and also plough back into the community.   “We have managed to acquire a strategic partnership between ourselves (IIHSM) and Wuhan University and Technology, which is a Chinese state institution,” he said.  He said Wuhan University is one of the best Asian universities focusing on engineering evolution and is in partnership with Chinesse Engineering Hub and other international universities such as Harvard University in the United States (US).

“Our aim is to improve the education standard in Botswana as some citizens are always complaining about it and that is why we have opted to partner with one of the best in the world,” said the CEO.  According to Phalalo, in their partnership with Wuhan, it was agreed that IIHSM should send a mining engineering employee for a Master’s and PhD on a full Chinese Government sponsorship. Santu became the first Motswana to benefit from the partnership, which will see him pursuing his Master’s Degree, and later PhD in mining engineering.

The sponsorship is worth P60, 000 annually and the Chinese government will also be responsible for his transport, medical aid, living allowance, accommodation and tuition fees.

Mimilili will jet out of Botswana on September 7 for China. Apparently, he had just arrived from Missouri State, US, where he completed his first degree in mining engineering through government sponsorship.  In conclusion Phalalo highlighted that they were in the process of building a state-of-the-art university in Letlhakane as they had acquired a two-hectare plot through Letlhakane Sub land-board.
