The claim was made by Philip Khwae, the Kgalagadi North UDC MP, who told a political rally in Charleshill recently that the money has been channelled to the wrong cause. He was speaking at the launch of the UDC parliamentary candidate for Gantsi South, Motsamai Motsama.

He accused area MP and Agriculture Minister, MP Chrstiaan De Graaf of failing the people of Gantsi North, especially the agricultural sector as standards have gone down. “When we call De Graaf to Parliament to come and answer questions related to agriculture, he literally refuses and comes up with flimsy excuses like he is ill. He runs away. We are left with no option but to one day drag him to Parliament,” Khwae said.

He said the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has completely lost track and even the former president, Festus Mogae has said so. He asserted that UDC will address people’s needs and interests urgently when it comes to power. The UDC parliamentary candidate for Gantsi North, Noah Salakae told the rally that some BDP members wanted to buy a UDC council candidate by bribing him with P2,000 to defect. He said they managed to talk to the said councillor out of such an unwise move.

In his address to the rally, Motsamai Motsamai said he should be voted to Parliament because he will fight for the people to have good roads, find jobs and address the falling standards of education in the area.

“If I can manage that for the next five years and die after I have realised these targets, I would die a happy man,” he said. He condemned the use of pit latrines in some primary schools in the constituency. He said this will be a thing of the past if he is elected. He said he make sure that the latrines are demolished and replaced by flush toilets.

He said Gantsi South has many Bahereo who have ventured into cattle farming and need government assistance to come up with good agricultural policies to assist them. He said livestock farming is a priority for Baherero and they produce quality cattle and need professional guidelines and techniques. More than 185 new members were welcomed to UDC from BDP
