Apart from being a high profile features writer, Seeretsi is also a talented guitarist.  On Friday the stocky man revealed his other talent, his scintillating vocal skills.

The author of the Solo Four-string Guitar of Botswana was a guest performer at the Poetry Against Poverty show at Westwood International School on Saturday.

Seeretsi and saxophonist Lame stole the limelight from the poets performing as Sereetsi and the Natives. The short performance started with a composition documenting the guitarist’s life thus far.

The piece, without any lyrics, called Deadlines, Headlines and By-lines tried to explain Seeretsi’s life as a journalist.

“This is a composition about my life in the newsroom and I am happy to see some of my colleagues here,” he said, before stammering his bass string.

Within moments the crowd was reminded of the late Stampore’s brilliance as Seeretsi produced some melodies bearing similar to those made popular by the late folklore musician. As the performance intensified the two men’s instruments created a harmonic romance of good sound to which the audience cheered and clapped to in jubilation.

On the guitar, the former journalist varied sounds with so much ease, raving between some jazzy tunes and rock sounds.

But it was Seeretsi’s vocal skills that really captivated the crowd on the night.

There were murmurs within the crowd when he announced that he would be doing a song called Boteng Teng Teng, probably with a majority thinking something sexy.

But that was just a love song in which a man expresses his deep love for a woman for her good behaviour coupled with her good looks making her all the more irresistible.
