The rapper had earlier promised his fans that once his official Facebook page hits 5,000 likes he would upload a single for free downloading. At the weekend, the page had already hit 5,334 likes while Boloi had been downloaded 4,000 times.

Euri, who had a double celebration over the weekend – his birthday and the nomination - explained, “Boloi is an internet single.  There is new media.  Social media is getting to a point where any musician can use it as a form of outreach.  It’s an alternative for radio and newspaper. It makes sense for us to start having singles specifically for the Internet.”

Euri said if Boloi becomes successful he would consider taking it to other media.

“It has done very well with 4,000 downloads in less than two weeks, which means there is a lot of demand.  I have been getting lots of feedback from Namibia, Zimbabwe and locally.  People say they want to see it as a video,” he said. The single is the first of Mark XIII, a collection of eight songs, which will be released monthly on the Internet.

He said the project was called Mark XIII as a metaphor for his music being spread in all the nations, much like the word of Jesus Christ. He said the flying pieces of paper with music notes on them and destruction on the cover represent the hip-hop music world in chaos. “The mixtape will be available for free on this page when we reach 10,000 likes,” he said.

Meanwhile, Euri is excited about his YAMA nomination where he faces off with Zeus and Boogie Sid for the Social Media award.

“I am glad I have been nominated for the best use of media.  We had already started on this concept.  In terms of using new media I have been ahead of the rest of the pack,” he said.  The man formerly known as Eureka ‘The Cover Boy’ has three studio albums under his belt with Raditaola Raditaola and Stage Works having both won BOMU awards for best hip hop album.  His most recent album is From Francistown With Love with the hit song Mosadi, in which he featured Lizibo Simons.

Some of his career highlights include the BOMU accolades in 2009 and 2012.  He has previously worked with musicians like Khuli Chana, HHP and performed at Cape Town Arts Festival in 2007.
