Coach and International Amateur Athletics Association (IAAF) course instructor Mogomotsi Otsetswe conducted the course.

Addressing attendants at the five-day course, which was held at Masunga Stadium last week, Otsetswe said although the country is doing relatively well in track events, it is with the field events where there are still challenges.

He urged the teachers to work hard to develop athletes who could excel internationally in the field events.

Participants were drilled on both practical and theoretical aspects of running an athletics programme.

For his part, BAA Sports development officer, Gable Garenamotse said since coaching is an on going process, he urged participants to continue learning to be better coaches.

He said to make athletics to be run more professionally, his association will work on ensuring that those involved in coaching and officiating should at least possess a level two coaching and officiating certificates.

When giving a vote of thanks, the zonal athletics coordinator, Thomas Ndaziila expressed gratitude to participants’ good response to the course and encouraged them to share information with their colleagues.

He expressed optimism that the zone, which did extremely well in this year’s national athletics competitions, will be more potent now that coaches are armed with requisite knowledge and skills.

“If the zone did extremely well without trained coaches, I anticipate fireworks now that you have the requisite knowledge and skills,” he said.
