The radio station revealed that nominee selection was based on the artist’s performance on the station’s playlist and chart shows. Only music, which was released between January 2013 and April 2014, was considered during the selection.

The YAMAs have 15 categories. Winners will be voted by the public through an sms voting system except for two categories considered as YFM station manager awards. Voting lines will be open from September 1 to November 1.

Speaking at the event, the Copyright Society of Botswana (COSBOTS) chairman Solomon Monyame said that Yarona FM was the first radio station to be licensed under the society. He commended the radio station in its continuous efforts to improve the local music industry citing that it is the only station, which as gone as far as employing artists.

“Yarona Fm was the first broadcaster to be licensed under the society, this is not surprising because Yarona FM has a long list of firsts in its short history,” he said.

Nominees

Best Dance: Team Distant, German Dollar, DJs Oats, La Timmy, Kuchi and Goveya.

Best Kwaito Artist: THABO, Eskimos and MMP family.

Best Hip-hop and Motswako: Zeus, SCAR, ATI, K-boss, Dramaboi and Sasa Klaas.

Best House-kwasa: VEE, Wizards, Eskimos, and Mingo.

Best House DJ:  Groove Cartel, Ricky Lamar, T-man, Kuchi, Easy B and Chrispin.

Best Hip-hop DJ: DJ Kells, DJ T-Izzy, DJ Roots, DJ Fauz and DJ Cupid.

Best Newcomer: TeamDistant, Samantha Mogwe, Sasa Klaas and PGB Linxtar.

Song of the Year: Vee’s Eita, Team Distant’s Kavengoma, Dramaboi’s Candy and Samantha Mogwe and Zues’s Transition.

Artist of the Year: Vee, Zues, ATI, Team Distant and MMP family.

Social Media: Zues, Euri and Boogie Sid.

The station manager’s award will be the most professional artist and best female artist, and the nominees will be revealed at the awards.

YAMAs will be on November 22 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC).
