BDF Cheetahs are in the second position with 45 points while  Gaborone Hogs is third with 36 points. Rhinos spokesperson, Lesedi Keekae told Monitor Sport after the match that playing against Gunners was not a walk in the park.

He said that the Selebi-Phikwe side had a heavy pack which prompted Rhinos to start with experienced players who are able to retain the ball.

The line up also had youngsters who are very good at making runs. He said the bulk of the team were members of the B Division team that won the league in 2012.

“We believe in continuity and that is why we involve youngsters. Our B division side is our feeder team and this has created depth in our team,” he said. Gunners’ official, Modesto Madzambi admitted that Rhinos completely outplayed them especially in the first half.

He said Rhinos have always given them a tough time because they are a good side. He said the situation on Friday was not helped by the fact that they missed three key players with injuries.

He said the fact that Rhinos have many national team players has also had a negative impact on his team. “We just thought that since we were playing against national team players, winning was out of the question,” he says. The two sides felt that the match official lacked knowledge of the game and depended much on the players on which decision to take when a foul has been committed.  Madzambi said their loss came as a result of playing more on their half and allowed Rhinos to press them.

Gunners have another tough assignment against Hogs this coming weekend. “I believe we will do well in that match because some of our key players will be available,” he said.

In another league match, Hogs thrashed Mochudi Rugby Club 128-0.  Botho Ryders were given soft points (28-0) after Tuskers failed to show up for the game.
