Police V continue winning ways

It was a close encounter from the opening quarter right to the end.

The James Kalebwe-coached side had Kesa Motswagole and Kamogelo Madikwe to thank after they collectively sunk in six three pointers that totaled 18 points for them. But Dolphins could have leveled and perhaps gone on to win the game if they had been a little accurate on the free throw. Dolphins got into the foul line 32 times and only managed to convert 12 times. Had they scored more than that they could have closed that gap, but some poor shooting on the free throw line cost them the game.

Police men also had an easy weekend when they beat Warriors 51-20 in another match played on Saturday.

Police did not field any of their starting five regulars with the likes of Oscar Gobusamang, Mwelwa Sikwila and Percy Letsholo sitting it out.

“It was an easy game for us, which is why we banked on fringe players. We have a big game next week and had to rest some of our players,” Sikwila said after the game.

Sikwila played with a wrist injury when they beat Cadets the previous weekend and resting him could give him time to recover from the injury.

Police have a tricky game against Troopers this weekend and need all their top players in good shape against the former champions. The Troopers game presents them their toughest test of the season so far. They have beaten BDF V, Cadets and Warriors in their opening three games. Cadets bounced back to winning ways when they beat Botho Saints 57-45 in an exciting match.

Cadets had to do without their key players Kago Masisi and his elder brother Mano Masisi, but proved they had enough depth to put up a good challenge. Kenneth Jimbo and Basimane Tau carried them with stellar performances in a game that could have gone either way.

The two teams went to the third quarter tied on 39-44, but Cadets were more fired up in the final quarter and wrapped up their win.

Meanwhile, the COSSASA Games Under 17 basketball team left yesterday (Sunday) for Lusaka, Zambia.

The team has three players from last year’s squad and one player from the 2014 Africa Youth Games, Bathusi Tirelo. They will spend a week in Lusaka.
